In Computer Applications at DMS, we feel it is vital to prepare students to use technology of the 21st century. Our website was a vision that has finally come to life. This innovative class is the first one of its kind in Decatur Township. The opportunity to take classes online has given people all over the world the opportunity to continue their education. We are trying to expose students to every opportunity that technology provides for learning, so they will be inspired to continue their education.

The set-up of our site is simple. The calendar is designed to be the main hub the will keep students organized and on-task at all times.  Everyday students will go to the calendar page to see their daily agenda. The agendas are prepared weeks in advance, so students always know what is expected for the days to come. These activities are linked to resources, directions, rubrics and/or podcasts that students will need to successfully complete projects. The standards tell students what they need to learn during the lessons. The examples will show what is expected of students. Our goal is to teach students different ways to implement technology for educational and personal use. Students will be able to progress through the class by completing activities that maximize our technology capabilities.

Our primary curriculum goal is to teach students how to utilize the computer as a tool for learning. By recommending resources and websites that are free, students are able to integrate technology into educational and everyday life.  Also, students will leave our classes with new ideas to effectively use Microsoft Office. Students will be able to create projects such as letters, spreadsheets, graphs, charts, presentations, and newsletters. As students create these projects we expect students to follow the Principles of Design, which give guidelines for creating professional looking projects.

Our Internet-savvy students of today will be learning how to safely, efficiently, and responsibly search on the Internet. Students love our multimedia development opportunities. Windows Movie Maker, Audacity and HTML coding get our students fired up about personal computer use. They learn to produce movies, create podcasts, music pieces and basic websites. Again, all for free!

In addition, students will be encouraged to develop correct typing skills and develop healthy work habits. Students are asked to improve accuracy and efficiency. We also try to encourage correct form and posture, so students avoid long-term health problems.

Computer Applications is a 9 week course that students will take during both their 7th or 8th grade year.

Again, we welcome you to our innovative online experience. We hope that you follow us along in our journey. At times, we will be making small adjustments to the site. If you have suggestions or want to learn right along with us, please feel free to contact us.

Thank You,

Mrs. Zinyemba and Mr. Opel
