Essential Question: How do I create a business letter?

Common Core Writing Standards- Production and Distribution of Writing

5. With some guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed. (Editing for conventions should demonstrate command of Language standards 1–3 up to and including grade 8 on page 52.)

Objective: Students will be able write a business letter.

Microsoft Word: Letter writing

1. Go to Start Button> Programs> Microsoft Office> and open Microsoft Word.

2. On the Home Tab, hit No Spacing in the Styles Area.

3. Press Enter 8 times.

4. Type in the date:  January 15, 201_

5. Hit Enter 4 times.

6. Type the following lines:

                Mrs. Elizabeth Stevenson (press Enter)

                1204 Drumcastle Court (press Enter)

                Chesapeake, VA 23323

7. Press Enter 2 times.

8. Type the salutation, Dear Mrs. Stevenson,

9. Press Enter 2 times.

10. You are now ready to type the body of your paragraph. As you key the paragraphs, do not press Enter until you have completed the paragraph.  Type:

 

(Hit tab once to indent) Congratulations! You are the winner of this month’s drawing. Your name was drawn from more than 1,000 entries.

 

11. Press Enter 2 times to leave a blank line before the next paragraph.

12. Type:

(Hit tab once to indent) As the winner, you will receive two free movie rentals of your choice. Just think, you get to see two exciting, entertaining movies absolutely free. (Press Enter 2 times)

 

(Hit tab once to indent) You may come into the store anytime within thirty days of this letter to make your selections. Bring the letter in with you. This is our way of saying thanks for your patronage. Enjoy your movies. (Press Enter 2 times)

 

13. Type: Sincerely,  (Press Enter 4 times)

14. Type: Mrs. Perez, (Press Enter once)

15. Type: Store Manager (Press Enter 2 times)

16. Type: Your Initials

17.  Go to Save As… “Last Name” Letter.

18. Spell Check. Hit Save.

19. Make sure Word is closed.

20. Go into Documents, right-click on “Last Name” Letter and copy.

21. TO SUBMIT FOR MR. OPEL= Go to Computer, Student Drive, Blue, Opel, Word #6- Letter Writing> Your Class Period and Paste.

TO SUBMIT FOR MRS. ZINYEMBA= Copy and paste into the DropBox.
