Microsoft PowerPoint Lesson #1- Movie

Essential Question: Can I make a presentation that runs on its own?

NTES Standard:

1.   Basic Operations and Concepts

By the End of Grade 8- 2)       Students know how to evaluate, select, and use appropriate technology tools and information resources to plan, design, develop, and communicate content information, appropriately addressing the target audience and providing accurate citations for sources.

By the End of Grade 8- 3)       Students know how to identify appropriate file formats for a variety of applications and apply utility programs to convert formats, as necessary, for effective use in Web, video, audio, graphic, presentation, word-processing, database, publication, and spreadsheet applications.

5. Technology Research Tools

a. Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.

By the End of Grade 8-Students know how to search, collect, and evaluate resources from a variety of locations online, and construct a linked list of resources (e.g., information, research, data, photos, video clips, illustrations, graphics) to support content learning and project development.

Make A New Slide Show

·        Open up PowerPoint

·        Choose blank presentation, click OK

·        Choose Layout for 1st Slide, click OK

·        To add make a new slide, under the INSERT menu, choose NEW SLIDE

 

Change Color of Background

·        Under Format, choose BACKGROUND

·        You can choose solid color or go to Fill Effects to choose shaded, pattern or textured.

·        Click Apply

 

Change the Font

·        Highlight any text you want to change and change the font size, color or type.

 

Adding Pictures or Graphics

·        Go to INSERT, PICTURE, PICTURE FROM FILE

·        Find your folder and the picture you want and hit Insert.

 

View Slide Show

·        Go VIEW, SLIDESHOW

·        Hit ESC to stop show

 

View Slide Show as Outline/Change Order/Delete Slides

·        Go VIEW, SLIDESHOW

·        Drag Slides into order/Copy and Paste/Delete in Outline

 

Inserting the Midi File

·        In Power Point, go to Insert- Movies and Sound - Sound from File - then get your midi file out of your team folder.

·        A megaphone should represent the sound on your slide. Go to Custom Animation. The megaphone will show up as Media #. Change its' Animation Order to be first in the list by using the arrows to the right of the list. 

·        Click on the Timing Tab and make your Midi file automatically play at 0 secs. You will want to set the next animated item on your page to start a couple seconds after the midi file. It will give time for the music to start before the animations on your page.

·        With Media # highlighted in the Animation Order- Click on the Play Settings Tab- Click on the Continue Slide Show option so the music will play during the slide show. Right below this option, change the number to 3 so the music will play for 3 slides.

·        You should repeat these steps until you have music on slides- 1, 4, 8, and 12.

 

Reminder- Music will only play in View Show. Be PATIENT!

 

Recording a Sound File

·        Click on INSERT, MOVIES and SOUNDS, RECORD SOUND

·        The recording window will appear on the screen. When you are ready to record, make sure you are close to the microphone and then click on the button with the red dot on it.

·        When you are finished talking, click on the button with the black square on it.

·        Click OK

·        The sound file will be displayed as a speaker on the slide. Double click on the icon to hear the file.

 

Saving Items for PowerPoint

·        First find the items you want to save. Right click on it and go to “Save As.”

·        You can Insert them into your PowerPoint by going INSERT, Sound or Picture from File.

 

Slides Change Automatically/Enter Screen Differently

·        SLIDE SHOW, SLIDE TRANSITION

·        Uncheck on a mouse click and check automatically after ____ seconds. Usually will be 10 – 15 seconds per slides.

·         You can also decide how slides come into screen.

 

Custom Animation

·        Everything you put on your slide show needs to be animated.

·        On music slides (1, 4, 8, and 12), your media will be 1st set at 0 secs so it starts playing as soon as your slide appears. Title is needs be set for 3 secs after media. Everything else set at 1 sec.

·        On other slides, title and everything else should bet set at 1 sec.

·        How they enter the screen is on the EFFECTS tab. The rule is nothing on the page should ever cross in front of anything else.

 

Getting Music to Automatically Play

·        Go to Custom Animation and click on Multimedia Settings Tab

·        Click on Continue Slide Show and set for 3 slides. (On Slides 1, 4, 8 and 12)

Internet Requirements  (parentheses represents what slides you need to have each)

Audio Files – 3 (1,3,5,7,9)

Backgrounds- Different on every slide using a wide variety.

Animated Graphics – On at least 3 slides

Animated Text – On at least 3 slides

Pictures – All Slides

Slide Transitions- Select Random and automatically

Custom Animation- Everything needs to be animated and move without a mouse click..
