| Mr. Opel Mr. Doug Opel
comes to DMS from DCHS, where he served as Athletic Director for the
last seven years. The 2010-11 school year marks Mr. Op
A graduate of Mooresville High School in 1977 and Butler University 1981, Mr. Opel was an avid sportsman, participating in three sports in high school. He represented Butler on the gridiron as the Bulldog’s leading receiver for his junior and senior seasons. After his playing days, Mr. Opel coached football, basketball and track over the years, at both Ben Davis and Roncalli High Schools. He is very proud to have been a part of many IHSAA State Championships as an assistant coach and/or Athletic Director. All of these experiences have helped to shape Mr. Opel’s educational/life philosophy. He believes it is imperative for all students to be involved in activities outside the classroom…and success in anything will be directly proportional to the effort and work put into the activity! You can make it happen!
In the classroom, Mr. Opel has taught many business and vocational classes. While the business curriculum has changed dramatically over the years, he has kept up with the progress through graduate classes and having a great interest in the advancing technology available today. From manual typewriters, to word processors, to computers to the internet, Opel looks forward to Computer Applications class at DMS, working with the “Blue House” Hawk students, with Mrs. Zinyemba and all the other staff members at DMS!

30th year as a teacher, coach, and school administrator.
Originally schooled in “Business Education,” he returns to the classroom
to teach Computer Applications after a 15 year absence and is looking
forward to the opportunity!
Mr.
Opel is married to his lovely wife Julie, who has been his biggest
supporter! In addition to raising the family, she is a physical therapy
assistant and works with physically/mentally handicapped students. They
have four beautiful children ranging in age from 22 to 13. Morgan
recently graduated from Indiana University; Mallory will be returning
for her second year at Union College in Barbourville, KY; Bryce is a
junior at Roncalli HS and Meredith is finishing her eighth grade year at
St. Mark School.
